Whats the difference between a democrat and a republican?

ive been a republican for years but here is the stuff i would support:legalize weed, legalize gambling, im applying for disability and can't work so im for disability and food stamps. Im not totally against mexicans flocking over here but it should be monitered so we don't get too many.
