Is it fair or that the US uses more resources and produces more CO2 per person than any other country? Why?

I am not at all trying to be rude about asking this question. I just am curious as to what people have to say about this and why they say what they do. Is this directed to our usage of cars in the US versus than what other countries are using as their form of transportation? Are we that dependent on cars versus any other form of transportation? Please and thank you for answering my question and providing your view on the subject matter. (:
